His Excellency the Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mahmoud Abdulaziz Bushehri, headed the delegation of the State of Kuwait participating in the One Water Summit, which was held in Riyadh under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in the presence of Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Mr. Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank Group.
Dr. Bushehri noted that the summit discussed many important topics, which included basic rules and frameworks to improve the water security system at the regional and global levels, with the aim of achieving a number of goals, including providing water resources to all of humanity and ways to sustain them, in addition to issues of reducing drought, desertification, and water pollution, all of which have negative impacts on food security, human health, and climate change.
The summit also stressed the importance of encouraging knowledge, innovation, and investment in water sustainability projects, along with the necessity of community awareness of the importance of rationalizing consumption and not wasting this vital resource.
In the same context, and based on the high directives of His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Dr. Mahmoud Bushehri affirmed the desire of the State of Kuwait to join the World Water Organization, headquartered in Riyadh, as a founding and effective member, as announced by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman during the One Water Summit. This took place during the high-level coordination meeting on the sidelines of the summit, chaired by His Excellency Mr. Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Fadhli, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in the presence of representatives of participating countries.
